Reacting to modern toy-markets, the growing material abundance – leading to an alienation of material use and material understanding – and the missing understanding of product-lifecycles, the diploma project EEDIES makes an example of sustainable change, adressed to our future: the kids.
The centerpiece is a personalized fluffy toy, which consists of regional, degradable materials. But not only that – the animal actually is ALIVE. Equipped with a completely biological timer, EEDIES start to transform “naturally” after a certain time of use depending on the child, giving the kid the chance of exploring the circle of life first row. Hanging ears, sleepy eyes, fresh green grass – and that is only the beginning. If the child subsequently keeps taking care of its EEDIE, a plant can be harvested.
The kid gets the chance to understand ideas of origins, natural material and the circle of life.
